Positioning

A real library. Not a handful of stock presets.

ninetysix is built to ship with a deep official library covering the sounds players actually use, plus the unusual sounds they usually need a second or third device to reach. The included library is not the limit. New official effects can be added over time, and AI credits let players customize, remix, or generate effects tailored to their rig, style, or ideas.

Official effects included

Foundational, ambient, experimental, and utility effects ship as part of the pedal platform, not as locked upsells.

Expanded over time

OTA updates let the official library keep growing after launch, which means the library is a platform, not a frozen set list.

AI for customization

Credits are for customizing, remixing, or generating specialized effects, not for unlocking the basics.

Library overview

The library spans core pedalboard tools, deep stereo processing, modern ambient design, glitch workflows, and brand-specific originals. It is organized into tabs so the catalog stays easy to scan as the official library keeps growing.

Official category

Drive, Boost & Saturation

From transparent push to amp-like breakup to aggressive distortion.

Transparent Overdrive

Keeps the dry attack intact while adding modest soft clipping and only mild midrange reshaping.

Compared with the other overdrives, Transparent Overdrive holds the 930 Hz boost in check and leaves the high shelf more open after saturation, so the dry phrase remains clearer inside the blended output.

View How It Works

Amp-Like Overdrive

Mid-forward soft clipping tuned to feel closer to a pushed amp gain stage than a flat boost.

The amp-like path leans harder into the low-mid contour before the clipper and keeps the post-drive shelf darker, which pushes the tone toward smoother breakup rather than bright edge.

View How It Works

Hard-Clip Distortion

Denser clipped distortion with tighter transient control and more saturation depth than the overdrive branch.

The distortion path drives the pre-shaped signal into two nonlinear stages, so it clamps transients harder and keeps more sustained harmonic density than the single-stage overdrive variants.

View How It Works

Tape Preamp

Low-gain thickening stage that adds body and gently compresses the phrase instead of fully distorting it.

The preamp branch lowers the drive range, adds more low-end support before saturation, and keeps the top end darker after clipping so it behaves as a thickener rather than a hard drive stage.

View How It Works

Clean Boost

Broad clean lift with mild harmonic compression and minimal coloration.

The signal is cleaned up with a high-pass filter, given a small low-mid contour, then passed through one very gentle soft-saturation stage before a restrained top-end shelf.

View How It Works

Treble Boost

Upper-mid-forward booster that thins the lows and pushes the signal into a brighter lead voice.

This branch removes more bass up front, adds a stronger upper-mid emphasis before saturation, then leaves the top end more open after clipping than the regular clean boost path.

View How It Works

Germanium Boost

Soft-edged boost with a slightly biased breakup character and a darker, rounder top.

The germanium-style branch adds a small DC skew before the nonlinear stage and follows it with extra top-end trimming, so it feels softer and less glassy than the cleaner boost paths.

View How It Works

JFET Preamp

Preamp-like overdrive with asymmetric breakup and a narrower speaker-style mid focus.

The JFET branch adds offset before saturation and then narrows the result with a speaker-style band-pass contour, creating a more preamp-like, transistor-pushed texture.

View How It Works

Console Preamp

Console-style saturator with broad low-mid thickening and subtle top-end polish.

This branch keeps the low-gain preamp structure but adds a broad post-saturation mid emphasis and restrained speaker contour so the result reads as a mixed-bus color rather than a tape smear.

View How It Works

Transformer Saturator

Iron-forward saturator with a denser low-mid push and narrower bandwidth than Tape Preamp.

Transformer Saturator keeps the low-gain drive range but narrows the post-saturation voice with a band-pass contour, which makes the color feel denser and more iron-heavy.

View How It Works

Blues Overdrive

Rounded low-mid overdrive with a softer top and a more compressive feel than the transparent branch.

Blues Overdrive feeds the clipper with extra low-mid support, then smooths the result with darker post-drive shelving so the sustain feels thicker and less sharp.

View How It Works

Mid-Hump Overdrive

Mid-forward overdrive that concentrates the clipping around a pronounced center-band push.

This version reduces the bass shelf feeding the clipper and drives the broad 930 Hz peak harder before saturation, so the breakup sits farther forward in the mix.

View How It Works

Golden Overdrive

Smoother soft-clipped overdrive with extra low-end support and a gentler upper-shelf recovery.

Golden Overdrive keeps the one-stage drive topology but feeds it with a fuller low shelf and a milder post-drive high shelf, giving the clipped result a rounder edge.

View How It Works

Asymmetric Overdrive

Offset soft clipping that breaks up unevenly between waveform halves.

The asymmetric branch adds positive offset before saturation, so it generates a less even harmonic profile than the balanced soft-clip overdrives.

View How It Works

Edge-of-Breakup Enhancer

Low-gain breakup voice that opens up when the phrase gets louder and stays relatively clean on lighter passages.

This path derives extra gain from a smoothed envelope follower, so the clipping stage pushes harder on note peaks than on the quieter parts of the preview phrase.

View How It Works

Blend Drive

Drive voice with an internal clean blend so the clipped branch can stay aggressive without fully masking the source attack.

Blend Drive creates its own parallel clean-and-driven mix before the global `mix` stage, using `contour` to raise both the pre-drive weight and the internal clean contribution.

View How It Works

Vintage Distortion

Dense two-stage distortion with a narrower, darker vintage-style mid focus.

Vintage Distortion keeps the stacked clipping structure but narrows the voice after saturation with band-limited filtering so it reads less modern and less wide-band than the base hard-clip branch.

View How It Works

Tight High-Gain Distortion

High-gain distortion with stronger low-cut cleanup to keep palm-muted transients tighter.

The tight branch raises the pre-drive high-pass corner and trims the lows harder before the dual clipping stages, which keeps the saturated low end more controlled.

View How It Works

Doom Distortion

Massive low-end-forward distortion with darker top-end recovery and a heavier sustain wall.

Doom Distortion relaxes the low cut, pushes more bass into the two-stage clipper, and follows it with darker filtering so the output holds more low-end mass.

View How It Works

Chainsaw Distortion

Upper-mid-focused distortion with a sharper saw-like presence band riding above the clipped core.

The chainsaw branch adds a stronger post-saturation upper-mid peak after the stacked clipper, which gives the distorted voice more cutting presence than the base hard-clip mode.

View How It Works

Scooped Metal Distortion

High-gain distortion with a broad mid scoop and a tighter low-end contour for modern metal rhythm work.

After the dual clipping stages, this branch subtracts a broad center band and leaves the extremes more pronounced, so the distortion feels more scooped than the base hard-clip mode.

View How It Works

Bass-Blend Overdrive

Soft-clipped overdrive that preserves a stronger low band underneath the clipped branch.

Bass-Blend Overdrive keeps the main clipping path but adds a low-passed clean reinforcement in parallel, so the bottom end stays fuller while the mids and highs saturate.

View How It Works

Wavefolder

Soft clipping that folds the waveform for brighter, more synthetic upper harmonics.

The path saturates first, then sends the result into a wavefolder before the post-drive high shelf, which makes higher drive settings create sharper overtones than the plain overdrive branch.

View How It Works

Bitcrush Drive

Overdrive merged with quantized digital grit for grainier edges and stepped texture.

This branch clips the signal first and then quantizes the result, so `tone` changes both the coarseness of the digital reduction and the final top-end shelf.

View How It Works

Broken Speaker Drive

Constricted, damaged-speaker drive voice with a narrow mid bottleneck between clipping stages.

The broken-speaker branch inserts a narrow band-pass section between two saturation stages, stripping bandwidth mid-chain so the distortion collapses into a focused, torn voice.

Customize the library with AI

AI credits are for customization, not unlocking the basics.

The official library gets you from foundational tones to ambient, experimental, and extreme textures out of the box. AI credits are there for customization: refine an official effect, request a variation tuned to your rig, generate a niche effect type, or explore something entirely new. This keeps the included library intact while making AI a real creative tool instead of a paywall.

  • Make this chorus darker and wider

  • Turn this plate into a slow bloom ambient reverb

  • Give me a gated fuzz with octave-up shimmer trails

  • Create a resonant filter delay for shoegaze swells

  • Make a broken cassette echo with unstable pitch

Platform

Included official effects first. AI when you want something stranger.

ninetysix is positioned as a serious effects platform: a large official library included with the pedal, OTA growth over time, and AI customization for specialized sounds, remixes, and new ideas.
