Official effect

Formant Filter

Three-band formant bank with an LFO-driven vowel position for moving voice-like color.

The current patch builds a vowel-like spectrum by summing three band-pass stages whose centers move together from a shared `vowelPos` LFO. `focus` and `motion` reshape the lower and middle bands, while `rate` sets morph speed, so the result behaves like a continuously moving formant bank rather than speech analysis or articulation tracking.

Preview source

An internally generated picked-string phrase is widened to stereo with a 19-sample right-channel delay and slight left/right shelf-EQ offsets before it hits the filter core.

Effect core

Three-band formant bank with shared LFO-driven vowel-position modulation.

Signal path

The static waveform and the live player both reflect this compiled signal chain.

  • internal picked-string demo phrase
  • stereo spread with a short right-channel delay
  • LFO-driven formant position sweep
  • parallel three-band band-pass bank
  • dry / wet mix
  • DC blocker
  • output gain trim
  • final tanh limiter

Controls that matter

These are the currently active controls detected in the FAUST source for this effect.

  • mix: Blends the untouched stereo preview source with the filtered path after the effect core.
  • output_gain_db: Applies final post-effect level trim after DC blocking and before the output limiter.
  • focus: Adjusts the lower formant band placement and bandwidth of the first band-pass stage.
  • motion: Adjusts the width of the middle formant band while contributing to the overall vowel contrast.
  • rate: Sets the speed of the internal vowel-position LFO that sweeps the band-pass centers.

Controls

Audible controls in this DSP

  • mix

    Active

Blends the untouched stereo preview source with the filtered path after the effect core.

Lower settings preserve more dry attack and full-band tone; higher settings emphasize the filter treatment.

  • output_gain_db

    Active

Applies final post-effect level trim after DC blocking and before the output limiter.

Matches loudness without changing the filter behavior itself.

  • focus

    Active

Adjusts the lower formant band placement and bandwidth of the first band-pass stage.

Changes the weight and mouth-like emphasis of the lower vowel region.

  • motion

    Active

Adjusts the width of the middle formant band while contributing to the overall vowel contrast.

Changes how hollow or nasal the moving vowel shape feels.

  • rate

    Active

Sets the speed of the internal vowel-position LFO that sweeps the band-pass centers.

Changes how quickly the filter morphs between vowel-like positions.

Analysis
